1. Some funny things I remember about the war:
I don't see anything funny about while you are at war. The only thing that I would be looking for is the one that is going to stop me from taking anymore steps.
2. My memories of the way we lived in Europe:
I'm glad the Allies won the war. Otherwise we would be living their way. I don't think we had time to live in Europe. To me it was like going in the front door and out the back door when the war was over.
3. My most vivid memories from World War II:
Verdun City in France. We chase those Germans back so hard they left ammunition behind. Instead of using it had to try it out. That night at exactly 10:10 o'clock, that time the fireworks start. The Germans sent the bombers to Verdun to bomb the place where they left the bombs. The following morning, we got out of there cause they saw pretty good size hole in the ground, which was not there the day before. You know God was on our side that night. Lucky the bombs didn't go off. You would not be reading my letter.
4. My memories of the conditions of the countries I was in during the war:
France and Germany. Too much green pasture. When going through war you don't see very much of the country. You are looking for the enemy.
5. Something from the war that is difficult to talk about, but I'd like future Americans to know:
Yes, something from the war that is difficult to talk about. It was the way the Jew people were treated.
6. In spite of the hardships of war, I'm proud to have served my country in World War II because:
The reason I joined the Army was there were rumors the USA could be in a war. I also heard if they draft you they will send where they want to. I would not take my oath if they did not send me where I want to. I took my oath the following day.
7. My message to my lifelong Buddies in the 818th:
To my Buddies in the 818th T.D. BN. We reunite each year. Every year, it's in a different place. Mostly later part of August, and at first, the third week of July. It's good to see each other again with your wife and family.
