Marvin H. Goetz, Sr., 87, of Louisville, passed on to his eternal life with God on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Baptist Hospital East.
Marvin was a combat veteran of World War II, where he served as a sergeant in the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European Theater.
He retired from Western Southern Life Insurance Company after 32 years of service. He was a dedicated member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church for 52 years. Marvin was a fourth degree member and former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Spalding Council; a member of the St. Peter Casino Society, Knights of St. John, Highland American Legion Post 201, Catholic Golden Age Club and was a volunteer for the Sister Visitor Program.
He was preceded in death by Generose M. "Jenny" Forst, his loving wife of 55 years. Survivors include his son Marvin H. Goetz Jr. (Frances); his daughter, Ida J. Ferree (Dennis); three grandchildren, Karen Downey (Rex), Kenneth Goetz (Kristen), and Kimberly Goetz; four great-grandchildren, and his brother, William J. Goetz Jr. He is also survived by many dear friends including John Schroeder and Ed Conners.
His funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Barnabas Church, 3042 Hikes Lane, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
