Dear Veterans, Families, and Friends of the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion- It was with much sadness that I learned yesterday of the loss of our very dear friend, William J. "Bill" Arnett, of Headquarters Company. Bill passed away peacefully 7/18/08 of complications from congestive heart failure. He was 91 years of age. Sharon and I had the great pleasure of first meeting Bill at the 2001 Reunion in Long Beach. Bill was a regular at the Reunions until the logistics of distance and advancing age made it difficult for him to attend in 2006 and 2007. Fortunately and with the assistance of his loving daughter, Mary Lou, he was able to join us one final time in Knoxville this past year. Our condolences go out to Mary Lou and the rest of Bill's family. He will be greatly missed by his 818th buddies and friends. We are all thankful for the brief times we were allowed to spend with this extraordinary man.
